ATSC states that when an ISAN is assigned to a broadcast audiovisual work, it should be used as the content identifier; the ATSC content identifier made of a house number can coexist with the ISAN. Other Latin American countries such as Argentina are experimenting it. In Asia, ATSC has been adopted in some countries, among these South Korea. For these nations ATSC is going to be central for broadcasting as in the coming years, according to national laws, the broadcasting transmission have to pass to digital: USA is supposed to accomplish the switch off by February 17, 2009 and Canada by 31, August 2011 while South Korea by 31, December 2012. ATSC is an international, non-profit organization, developing voluntary standards for digital television. ISAN-IA and the Arab Cinema Directory are currently working on a collaboration to make the delivery of ISANs directly through the Arab Cinema Directory (www.acdir.net). This cinema database, is part of the Medscreen project, which was created with the support of the European Union, within the framework of the EUROMED audiovisual project to support and promote Arab – Mediterranean cinema productions. Falafel, the 2006 Lebanese film directed by Michel Kammoun, is the first film from the Arab Cinema Directory to have received an ISAN. “ISAN is a passport for films, an ID, a fingerprint” commented Michel Kammoun, the Lebanese director. After having realized some shorts, Falafel is the first feature film made by Kammoun , which tells the story of Toufic, a young Lebanese man, and his nocturnal rides. Between his family, friends and love affairs, Toufic tries to seize every day of his existence. Each second is the most important. Soon he discovers that having a normal life in this country is a luxury out of his reach. Fifteen years after the war has ended, a volcano lies on every street corner, like a ticking bomb that is ready to explode. Falafel, which has already won many prizes in international festivals such as Namur, Lille, Dubai, Rotterdam, Alexandria and Valencia has been registered also in the Arab Cinema Directory. “We are very proud to expand our database to the new cinema works produced in the Arab – Mediterranean countries.
