  • Geneva, April 2010 -Tuotos, the Finnish Copyright Association representing over 500 independent Finnish film and audiovisual producers, has submitted an Expression of Interest for implementing an ISAN Registration Agency in Finland. Founded in 1998 to improve the administration of film producers' copyrights, Tuotos' members are the Finnish Association of Independent Producers (SATU),the Central Organization of Finnish Film Producers (SEK), and the Finnish National Group of IFPI (ÄKT).(More...)
  • Geneva, March 2010 - Filmret, the Center for Rights of Danish Film and TV Producers, has submitted an Expression of Interest for implementing an ISAN Registration Agency in the coming months to serve the audiovisual market in Denmark,Greenland and in the Faroe Islands.(More...)
  • Geneva, January 2010 - An ISAN code has been allocated to all films screened at the 45th Solothurn Film Festival, the most important event for Swiss film productions, which has started on the 21st of January and will go on till the 28th of January 2010. Every year the festival presents a representative selection of the current Swiss Films. The ISANs, assigned to each film, can be retrieved on the Festival Online Program where it is possible to get all the screenings.
  • Geneva, January 2010 - A new online ISAN Registration platform connected to the central ISAN Repository has been launched by Procirep (French Society for Producers of Cinema and Television) to provide the French producers a suitable tool to register their works within the ISAN French Agency. This platform, accessible by the web site www.france-isan.org and financed by the RIAM fund from CNC (French National Center of Cinematography) , has been developed within a Consortium among Procirep, ARP (French Society of Authors, Directors and Producers), SACD (French society of Dramatic Authors and Composers) and SCAM (Society of Multimedia Authors). Since January 2010, ISAN is mandatory for rights declaration at Procirep and ANGOA and for any project supported by these societies’ cultural funds. (More…) .

  • Geneva, August 2009 - The Iranian Alliance of Motion Picture, also known as House of Cinema , has submitted an Expression of Interest for implementing an ISAN Registration Agency in the coming months serving the Iranian audiovisual market. House of Cinema is an assembly of 29 different Motion Picture Guilds in Iran.(More...)
  • Geneva, August 2009 - ISAN-IA (ISAN International Agency) is saddened by the passing of its good friend and colleague, Lawrence Safir, who died on August 5th, in a London hospital after a long illness. He was 62. Lawrence has served the ISAN Standard since its conception, being one of the main protagonists of the audiovisual industry who contributed to build up the ISAN Standard to establish a unique identification for audiovisual programs. Member of the ISAN-IA’s Board since its creation, during the last two years, he has also covered the position of President of the ISAN International Agency, bringing all his precious experience of the audiovisual market, acquired during his long and successful career.(More...)
  • Geneva, 28th July, 2009, Press Release - The ISAN International Agency (ISAN-IA) is proud to announce the arrival of three new investors: Agence Française ISAN (AF ISAN), Agencia Iberoamericana del Registro ISAN (ARIBSAN) and Secure Path Technology LLC, already ISAN Registration Agencies in France, Spain and the US. Together with founding members AGICOA and CISAC, the new Associate Members bring additional investment to the ISAN project, thus enabling the broadening of ISAN services to facilitate the uptake and expansion of the Standard by the Audiovisual Industry globally. ISAN-IA’s Board elected as Chairman Eric Baptiste, Director General of CISAC and awarded the exclusive Global License Agency to US-based Secure Path Technology LLC to support the accelerated development of the ISAN database licensing and querying service. “The ISAN standard is now in a major expansion phase” – said Eric Baptiste, Chairman, ISAN IA – “This new investment will allow ISAN-IA to broaden its geographic reach and enhance the level of service to the Audiovisual Industry”.   • Geneva, 12th March, 2009 – From March 2009, UK Film Council requires registered ISAN numbers to be provided as part of the delivery requirements for feature films receiving Lottery production funding. This will be extended to films receiving money from the Prints and Advertising Fund in late spring 2009, to coincide with the next update of the guidelines for that scheme.

    Short films are not included in the requirement at this stage, but makers of short films may like to consider the advantages of ISAN registration, particularly if they plan to seek commercial or other distribution. (More)
  • Geneva, 25th February, 2009ARIBSAN Latin America is the new appointed ISAN Agency, located in Uruguay. Founded by ARIBSAN, the Registration Agency that has been acting in Spain since 2006, it will be soon operational.
  • Geneva, January 6, 2009 Korea Ubiquitous XE Co. Ltd , (KUXE), has submitted an Expression of Interest for implementing an ISAN Registration Agency in the coming months serving the Korean audiovisual market. Since 2006, KUXE is the first provider of Blu-ray production and the only company having Blu-ray research development and mastering in Korea. Among their clients KBS (Korea Broadcasting System) .   • Geneva, October 7, 2008 ITV, one of the main private national broadcasters in Great Britain, is adopting ISAN for the content identification of all of its programs. This initiative, announced by ITV and ISAN UK, is in support of ITV’s digital strategy and will enable the tracking and monitoring of ITV content throughout the work across multimedia platforms. John Cresswell, ITV’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “the ability to exploit our content effectively is a key part of ITV’s strategy and using ISAN will enhance our ability to do this”. Max Graesser, ITV’s Director of Operations has also expressed his favor to this new collaboration with ISAN: “ITV is delighted to build this relationship with ISAN. It reflects our commitment to digital working and our intent to ensure a secure supply chain model”. As Patrick Attallah, ISAN-IA Managing Director, has said, ISAN adoption by ITV demonstrates the benefits of using ISAN for universal content identification and tracking. ISAN adoption by ITV arrives in the second semester of a year when other major audiovisual industry players such as Philips, Thomson and Harris have already implemented ISAN. It is expected that ITV’s backing of ISAN will increase its adoption both in the UK and throughout the world. (More...)
  • Geneva, September 29, 2008 SE-YAP (Sinema Eseri Yapimcilari Meslek Birligi),the Movie Producers Professional Association in Turkey, has submitted an Expression of Interest for the implementation of an ISAN Registration Agency in the coming months in order to serve the Turkish territory. Se-Yap counts approximately more than 50 members among the local movie producers. (More...)
  • Geneva, 9th September, 2008 - ISAN : the content Identifier recommended by ATSC ISAN is the content identifier recommended by the Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC) in the updated approved standard A/57B, “Content Identification and Labeling for ATSC Transport”, published last May. ATSC states that when an ISAN is assigned to a broadcast audiovisual work, it should be used as the content identifier; the ATSC content identifier made of a house number can coexist with the ISAN. The ATSC content identifier alone should only be used when an ISAN is not available for that content.With this recommendation, ATSC aims to bring the method for content identification in line with those defined in MPEG-2 systems.ATSC is the Standard for Digital Broadcasting, replacing the analog NTSC system, adopted in USA, Canada and in many countries in Latin America such as Mexico, Honduras and Puerto Rico. Other Latin American countries such as Argentina are experimenting it. In Asia, ATSC has been adopted in some countries, among these South Korea. For these nations ATSC is going to be central for broadcasting as in the coming years, according to national laws, the broadcasting transmission have to pass to digital: USA is supposed to accomplish the switch off by February 17, 2009 and Canada by 31, August 2011 while South Korea by 31, December 2012. ATSC is an international, non-profit organization, developing voluntary standards for digital television. Formed in 1982 by the member organizations of the Joint Committee on InterSociety Coordination (JCIC) - the Electronic Industries Association (EIA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), the National Cable Telecommunications Association (NCTA), and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) - it counts currently approximately 185 members representing the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite, and semiconductor industries.   • Geneva, 8th September, 2008 - ISAN network of appointed RAs continues to grow. ISAN Österreich (Austria), the newly appointed Registration Agency, intended to serve the Austrian market, has been founded by the two leading institutions of the Austrian film industry: AMPA (Audiovisuelle Medienproduzenten Austria), the society of producers of audiovisual media , which also have being running for more than 25 years the "VAM Verwertungsgesellschaft fuer audiovisuelle Medien", the collecting society in Austria , and the "Fachverband der Film- und Musikindustrie" , the association of the Austrian Film- and Music industry. ISAN Österreich will be soon operational.
  • Geneva, September 2, 2008 – ISAN to be soon officialized in China. ISAN and V-ISAN standards will be linked to the new Chinese national standard for identification codes to be used in online video contents. The Chinese Ministry of Culture has announced that as part of a move to combat online piracy and protect intellectual property rights, China will promulgate new National Standards for the identification of online contents which will be compliant with ISO Standards, such as ISAN and V-ISAN for audiovisual works as well as ISWC (the International Standard Musical Works Code) for music and ISTC (the International Standard Text Code) for texts. The National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Information and Documentation (NTCSID) is currently working these standards which will be sent to the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) – the Institution representing China to join ISO - for approval before November.
