At the approval of the ISAN standard in 2002, the ISO Technical Management Board (TMB) has mandated the following organizations to implement and operate the ISAN International Agency:
AGICOA is an international, not-for-profit organization established thirty years ago to track and distribute royalties on retransmission of audiovisual works for independent producers. AGICOA members are worldwide audiovisual producers associations, representing +10,000 rightsholders from about 40 countries.
CISAC was founded in 1926 as a non-governmental, non-profit organisation to works towards increased recognition and protection of creators’ rights. CISAC represents 228 authors societies from 119 countries and indirectly represents around 3 million creators and music publishers within all the artistic repertoires: music, drama, literature, audio-visual, graphic and visual arts. In 2010, the royalties collected by CISAC's member societies in their respective national territories topped € 7.5 billion.
FIAPF represents film and television producers' associations from 27 countries worldwide, including India, the USA, Japan, Argentina and many European countries. FIAPF's political action focuses on the promotion and defence of copyright and producers' exploitation rights. FIAPF is also present at all the leading international forums on audio-visual technology standards. The organization was also behind the creation of AGICOA in the nineteen eighties.
ISAN International Agency (ISAN-IA) was founded in 2003 by AGICOA, CISAC and FIAPF as a Swiss not for profit association created for the sole purpose to act as the ISAN registration authority. ISAN International Agency operates under ISO agreement in accordance with the ISO rules for Registration Authorities. ISAN-IA's founding members are well-recognized international organizations that have widely acknowledged expertise in the audiovisual industry and have established networks of contacts and affiliates around the world.
